Why Women Feel Shame About Pelvic Health (And How to Break Free)

Many women silently struggle with pelvic health concerns, including:

•      Leaking

•      Pelvic Pain

•      Constipation

Yet, they never talk about it because it feels embarrassing.

And for many Christian women, that silence is even deeper. You may wonder: “Why do I feel so much shame about something happening in my body?”

Let’s talk about it - honestly, clinically, and from a biblical perspective.

Why Pelvic Health Feels So “Off-Limits”

Pelvic health involves areas of the body that are often misunderstood, deeply personal, and rarely discussed openly. From a young age, many women are taught these topics are off limits and should be kept private.

So, when symptoms show up, the default response is silence and shame grows exponentially in silence.

The Emotional Weight: Shame, Guilt, and Isolation

Many women I work with aren’t just dealing with physical symptoms, they’re carrying:

  • Shame (“Something is wrong with me”)

  • Fear (“Is this normal?”)

  • Isolation (“I’m alone in this”)

This creates a cycle where women: Avoid → Delay care → Symptoms worsen → Stay silent → Repeat

What Scripture Actually Says About Your Body

Here’s where we gently challenge the narrative.

Your body is not something to hide, feel ashamed of or ignore. Your body is a gift to steward. When you shift from Shame → Stewardship, everything changes. You begin to understand that everything about your body is intentional and unique. You learn to acknowledge symptoms without allowing them to shape your identity.

The Path Forward

Breaking free starts with:

  • Education → understanding what’s happening and accepting what you can and can’t control.

  • Language → being able to talk about it

  • Support → normalizing the conversation in safe spaces and being seen, heard and understood. Vulnerability destroys shame.

This is how women move from confusion to clarity, silence to confidence.

If you’ve been silently dealing with pelvic health symptoms, you’re not alone and you don’t have to stay there.
