If you’ve ever experienced:

  • leaking when you cough, sneeze, laugh or exercise

  • pelvic pain

  • pressure or heaviness

  • urgency or constipation

You may have been told: “That’s normal.”

But here’s the truth: Just because it’s common… doesn’t mean it’s normal. Accepting what’s common as normal causes people to live with conditions they don’t have to, and not seek help for things they should.

What Is the Pelvic Floor?

Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles that support pelvic organs — bladder, uterus and rectum. Picture a hammock, or a bowl.

It also helps control bladder and bowel function, preventing leakage and supporting defecation. Finally, your pelvic floor plays a role in core stability and movement. Whether standing still or walking and running, it’s always working for you. It’s the center of your body; an anchor, if you will. It connects the top half of your body to the lower half.

When there is dysfunction, the total body can be affected and this is why treatment is important.

What Is Pelvic Floor Therapy?

Pelvic floor physical therapy is specialized, one-on-one care that focuses on restoring function and reducing (or eliminating) symptoms associated with the pelvic floor.

While a specific certification isn’t required for a clinician to provide care, specialized training is. A visit with a specialist could include gathering of medical history and current symptoms; assessment of muscle function, evidence-based education and a personalized treatment plan.

Common Conditions It Helps With

Pelvic floor therapy can address:

  • incontinence

  • pelvic pain

  • prolapse

  • urgency and frequency

  • postpartum recovery

  • cancer-related dysfunction

Why Many Women Don’t Seek Care

Even when symptoms are present, many women feel shame and embarrassment. Some believe symptoms are normal and “just a part of life”. Others have low expectations of benefits and some don’t know help exists. As a result, many experience worsening symptoms that could otherwise be treated and resolved.

What to Expect in a Session

A session is private and respectful, allowing plenty of time for you to share your story. It’s patient-focused, collaborative and guaranteed to provide evidence-based education and treatment.

Most importantly, it’s judgment and shame-free.

You deserve to understand your body.

You deserve to feel confident in it.

And you deserve care that actually helps.

👉 If you’ve been wondering whether pelvic floor physical therapy could help you, this is your sign to explore it.
